DeFi is the abbreviation for Decentralized Finance. The term is rather general and not very precisely defined, as it currently covers most financial applications that are not subject to the control of a central authority (middle man) as in the traditional financial sector. Inspired by blockchain tech, decentralized finance / DeFi is referred to as financial application built on distributed ledger technology.
