The Tronix (TRX) cryptocurrency is used as an internal means of payment for transactions on the Tron network, which was founded in 2017 and is managed by the Tron Foundation. The TRX token itself is used to power the operation of the blockchain, to process payments within the network, and to gain access to certain features of the Tron software. In 2018, the Tron Foundation acquired the peer-to-peer platform BitTorrent, bringing the TRX cryptocurrency to great attention in the mainstream.
